The entire Florida Senate signed on as co-sponsors, joining the bill’s champions, Senator Andy Gardiner, R- Orlando and Senator John Thrasher, R-St. Augustine.1108 . The bill will give parents of students with disabilities expressed consent on certain critical decisions regarding their children’s education. Bill 1108 requires parental signatures when students are taken off a standard diploma track. The bill provides a systematic definition of inclusion to provide uniformity across school districts. It also requires each school and school distict to provide a Best Practices in Inclusive Education assessment every three years with a Florida Inclusion Network facilitator.
The companion bill, House Bill 465 , is being considered with time winding down in the 60-day session, which ends Friday.
